Do I definatly have 3.42's ?

I know from the specs it should have them as it is a M6 95' Convertible ... But it sure seems like I shift an awful lot.

In 4th gear, 2000 RPM's puts me at like 41 MPH.

So that said, can someone with 3.42's and stock size tires check this for me?

I think I should be at/aroud 49 MPH with 3.42's if my calculations are right?

So that would put me at 4.10ish gears maybe?

You would have to have a scanner to get an accurate reading of rpm and mph. My Scanmaster shows my dash tach to be 200 rpm high. 4th gen. F-bodies are known for this. Here's a calculator.

f-body.org has a calculator at the mid/bottom on the left side, you can also just jack the car up in the rear and put a mark on the driveshaft and on the tire and count how many turns the driveshaft goes for one turn of the wheel, that's your gear ratio.

1600 RPM@70 in 6th=3.42
1800 RPM@70 in 6th=3.73
2000 RPM@70 in 6th=4.10
2200 RPM@70 in 6th=4.56

Re: Do I definatly have 3.42's ?

I thought about jacking it up but I had to go to work today ...

I might do it tommorow before I go to work.

I figure like everyone else has said, the stock tach is iffy, so Ill mark the DS with chalk, then count how far it has to be spun ...

It would be kinda sweet to find out I had gears ... This might explain why even though my car is a convertible, it feels really strong for what it has ...

Re: Do I definatly have 3.42's ?

I checked my rear gears today. Definatly are 3.42's ...

I think I might have a tranny from a 93'. I bought my car totaled and it needed a ton of work. Had to get a tranny for it, and when I got it, all that I was told is that it was a used T-56 6-Speed w/5K on it that would bolt in. Didnt know what year, or of it was even from a F-Body ... Do the Vettes run the same gears? Would a Vette or Viper T-56 bolt right to a F-Body Bell Housing?

Anyone know the gear ratios for the trannies?

I want to try and figure out what gear set my tranny has ...

Re: Do I definatly have 3.42's ?

1993 3.36 2.07 1.35 1.00 0.80 0.62 (std)
1993 2.97 2.07 1.43 1.00 0.80 0.62 (G92)

1993 m6 are way better, with 4.10's i could pull 6th easily, 94+ 6th is pretty much unsable even with 4.10s. Only downside is you cruise at about 3000 on the highway
