Dimensions of the LT4 'square' throw out bearing
Dimensions of the LT4 'square' throw out bearing
Does anyone happen to have an LT4 square type throw out bearing laying around that they could measure for me? What I want to know is the distance between the area that the shift fork sits in. I want to see if there is any difference between that and the stock round LT1 bearing. I have one on backorder but if I find that they are the same size I want to cancel it and try something else to fix a problem I'm having. These should come on all SPEC pressure plates and many other aftermarket LT1 clutch kits. If anyone with one of these bearings has their trans out currently and could check that measurement I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
Re: Dimensions of the LT4 'square' throw out bearing
It's been a while since i switched to the LT4 setup.... but from memory i actually compared the two side by side because i was a little concerned about how it would work (didn't know beforehand that the LT4 TOB was supposed to be square-ish). The "channel" the fork prongs ride in looked to be the same width. I do remember that the rounded surfaces in the LT4 channel have the same diameter as that of the LT1's. I'm guessing GM was trying to minimize the mass of the TO bearing so they "cut" the circle down to the shape it is (square-ish) to use less material while maintaining the same diameter. HTHs

Fastcaddie, it sounds like they are pretty close in dimensions, I'd still like to see them side by side to know for sure. It wouldnt hurt to have a new t/o bearing anyway so I think I'll just keep it on order.
turbo_Z, I had checked out that page of Brents when I was looking for info on this. He's got some great pics of the different clutches and bearings but no hard info on the dimensions of the two bearings.
Thanks for the info guys.
