Did my clutch go out? Plz help ASAP THANKS

I was driving down the freeway and all of the sudden while i was switching to 5th gear my clutch pedal gave out and went all "flimzy" I couldnt switch gears anymore and had to pull to the side.

A city tow truck came right away and towed my car to the street, he said he noticed a big puddle of green fluid under my car while we were being towed...I dont know if that has anything to do with it but i never saw it.

I am outside right now trying to figure out what happened and i think maybe the whole clutch gave out. The pedal is not catching anything anymore its just all flabby and flops all over the place. Does this thing have a clutch cable or something or do i need a whole new clutch? Im about to get a tow truck to take it to the mechanic but i dont wanna do it if i can fix this myself.

its a 97 camaro Z28 SS

THanks peeps! BTW (i am a old member but i forgot my username so no need to welcome me ....)

This should be in the drivetrain forum or maybe general tech, but not LT1 tech.

Check your clutch hydraulic fluid. IIRC, the reservoir is behind the driver's side shock tower.

If it's low/empty, you might have sprung a leak in the clutch hydraulics. Add some and see if it happens again.

Um yea, its fairly obvious the line broke. Putting more fluid in won't fix the problem except waste some more money. You need to jack the car up and see what part of the system it is coming from. A whole new clutch hydr system from GM is about 200$.

Yep, adding fluid isn't going to help until you get that fixed.

Check the ends of the line. It's possible one end just popped off.

So i'm gonna need the whole system? I really have no idea how to fix this and i jacked the car up to see where it was comming from and i cant realy see, its somewhere on top the the tranny. Can someone give me a quote of how much this is going to run?

I might just junk the thing and buy a new ride. I just spent 500 bucks to fix my rear brake lights because the sockets were rusted. Each one cost 100!!!! Theres no way im gonna spend another 500 bucks. Hell no/

Probably not. It depends on exactly what is leaking, but based on this post:

You can assume it won't be more than $200, assuming you do the work yourself. A reputable shop would probably charge you another $150 in labor.

Where are you located? If you're going to junk it, I'll take it.

+1. It's apparently worth less than $200 to you?

yes im serious, this car is getting old its got 117,000 miles on it the interior is starting to fade, leather seats are ripped & the headliner is peeling. The engine runs fine it only needs this clutch problem fixed and a new catylac converter + the oil presure runs low but that's normal with these cars. Gas is just a killer its about $250 a month+!!!

I rather just buy a new ride and save gas plus i need a new car because im a DJ and i need room to fit equipment.

Im in california, west covina its 20 min from Los Angeles.

If anyone wants it let me know I'll be willing to make arrangements to sell it. I'll give it up for 3500 as is.

hey man, don't junk it for this...i've got the same problem on mine and i'm about to fix it. I've done it before, and its not hard. if you have a buddy to help you, its easier because of the extra set of hands, but even if you aren't handy, you could replace the whole system in two hours. don't give up on it.

Nope. I bought one straight from a dealer and its around 200$, do you actually think I would take it to a shop?
