destroyed gears in the rear-end..

well the gears i just had replaced under two years ago are "shattered" as the shop put it.. they said everyhting else looks ok, but were told by richmond that when the gears break it usually requires a new housing, and they had the same problem with an '00 SS that they just re-did the rear end for the same problem.. but they told me they would try just replacing the gears first.. anyways if this doesnt work whats a good posi to go with? they replaced the one in the SS with an eaton posi this a good way to go? as for gears ive already made my choice, im gonna stick with a 3.73 but this time im going with motive gears instead of precision (or was it richmond.. im not sure) and hopefully the axles are still ok too.. but even if the housing is ok would it be worth it to go ahead and replace the posi? mine was already roasting off the inside tire in slow sharp curves

Don't know why you'd automatically need a new housing just because the gears broke? As long as the gears flung out and got picked up by the magnet on the cover, everything else should be fine. If the posi is going to break, it'll break of its own accord. My 4.10's broke, and I just installed the original 3.23's to the housing, and they're working fine.

that sounds good to me, and yes i had 3.73's installed when they broke. perhaps i dint let them go through the proper heat cycles and break-in when i got them installed? ah well either way time for gears lol. goin with Motive 3.73 this time. and the way it was explained to me is it messes up the housing around the main bearing area and you cant get it to go back in *shrug* they had the same problem with a 00 silver SS last week =/

Depends on the circumstances, and WHAT broke I guess?
