Crankshaft reverse rotation
I'm gonna remove the 4l60e tranny from the Z in my sig and have been reading my GM shop manual as well as my Haynes manual on removing/installing it. The Haynes manual says to rotate the crankshaft clockwise only (when facing the engine) to gain access to each bolt attaching the flexplate to the torque converter. My GM shop manual doesn't suggest this. The engine has locked up and I've rotated it back and forth until it hits the point of lock up. It will only rotate one revolution each way and I did it just a couple of times. Is the Haynes manual implying some internal damage to the tranny is possible rotating the crankshaft counter-clockwise? I may have to rotate it counter-clockwise once more to access those bolts. This is the first time I've heard of this suggestion...has anyone else had a bad experience not following this suggestion? The work starts in a couple of weeks and I'm researching the procedure so feedback would be most helpful and appreciated.

I always thought the clockwise only rule was just so you don't loosen the harmonic balancer bolt. I've spun mine both ways, but it is an M6. The engine doesn't care which way you turn it by hand. A/T, I suppose maybe, but I've never heard of it.
