i believe CPT doesnt sell transmissions, they build up your own. You ship them the trans and theyll build it up depending on what level you want. I have heard a lot of good things about their work and I dont think ive heard any complaints reallly. If i ever get out of the hole and can spend real money to mod my car Ill go to them

Re: CPT.Transmissions good or bad????

Never heard a bad review yet . Frank from CPT is on this board regularily (12SCNDZ) and he really seems to know what he's talking about. It's funny hearing him get into debates with other big builders who say they "know" what they're doing, 'cause, unless I'm missing something, seems Frank comes out on top?

BUT, over on LS1Tech, they have a couple "resident" builders that recommend completely opposite building techniques than Frank, but as far as his reputation around here, seems pretty flawless from anything I've read.

I have the Race rebuild. There were some hard parts changed too i.e. forward pistons, etc. because they were broke. He is an awesome individual to deal with, and the transmission has been great! The shifts are lightning fast, and very firm. I highly recommend his services.

Re: CPT.Transmissions good or bad????

Well, I'm certainly happy with our CPT transmissions in my 12.0 second '93 Camaro, 10.8 second '70 Camaro, '98 Tahoe, etc. etc. etc.

Oh wait...I'm kinda biased...LOL

Re: CPT.Transmissions good or bad????

I have a CPT custom built race trans in mine. I loved it for the time I had the car running. Shortly after my rebuild I lost oil pressure in the motor and its currently being rebuilt. But shifts are crisp, clean and very fast. I never knew a 4L60 could run like this. I cant wait to get the car running again to really abuse it (just a few more weeks I hope)

BTW, hard parts are anything outside of a normal rebuild. An input shaft, valve body, solenoids, ect...

Check out his web site and it shows you basically what is included with a basic rebuild.

Your best bet is to call Frank directly and talk to him. He can build a trans lhat will last. He has several on this board alone and no complaints from anyone!

Pro Race Rebuild.
Just compare his pricing/parts to other companies and you'll be sold! The customer service provided by Frank couldn't be better!

Re: CPT.Transmissions good or bad????

My total was under $1500 and worth every penny! I was there when Frank opened my transmission and turned it into roughly 3 billion pieces. He showed me every part, how it works and what he was replacing. After inspecting the internals he showed me the hardpart that needed to be replaced.
Call/email Frank...he'll answer any question you have. He answered all of my questions, even the same question a few times.
