Could it be the pilot bearing?

I have the oddest thing happening. When the car is cool, the clutch is as smooth as silk (stock disk, LT4 plate-changed out about 40-50K ago, never raced). When the engine is good and warm, there is a chatter just at the end of engagement. When I replaced the clutch, I used the roller bearing instead of a pilot bushing. Do you suppose that increased clearance when hot in this bearing could be the problem? I've heard of the things coming apart-esp. racing-but this is a new one on me.

I think the chatter you are hearing could just be the T/O bearing. Did you check the fitment of the bearing on the input shaft before you installed it to make sure it was a good fit?

On a side note, you should have gone with a bushing.

I don't think it is the T/O bearing. It is actual engagement chatter right at the last part of engagement-and only when it is hot. I went with the roller bearing because it was a truck part-and yeah, it was probably a mistake.

Pilot bearing will not cause the chatter issue. Dont see it being a TOB either. I would guess that through expansion and contraction, the clearances are moving around on the disk causing the problem. Could also be a non-flat flywheel, damaged disk or non-flat PP friction surface. Next ime use the bushing, the roller bearing is trouble.
