Cost to Rebuild

My car is getting a full rear-end rebuild...

Bearings, seals and new Ring/Pinion. Not replacing the Torsen, as it is fine. Very noisy during acceleration, small leaks, etc.

What do you think I will have to shell out?

Re: Cost to Rebuild

A buddy of mine spent about $800 back in the day before he knew about upgrading to a 12 bolt or a 9". Honestly, save your pennies and buy a new rear...

A lot depends on what part of the country you live in, as East and West coasts are high. Here in Oklahoma, you would pay about $150 for the gears, $360 for the posi, $85 for the bearing and shim kit. Then around $200 for labor. A replacement 12 bolt Moser, or Strange is about $2400. If you have a street car (no slicks, or manual trans) the 10 bolt should last. The 12 bolts are the ultimate strip rear end and you will pay for it.

Sorry, I hate to say it but Ford has the market cornered on rear ends. The 9" is much stronger than the 12 bolt.

Either way, a used replacement rear (12 bolt or 9") will cost about $1,500-$2,000. I payed $1,600 plus my 10 bolt to get my 9". Well worth it IMHO.
