clutches (SPEC4 vs. RAM HD) LT1
clutches (SPEC4 vs. RAM HD) LT1
i've driven a car with the stage 4 and it didnt feel any different then the stage 2 i have in mine right now (pedal pressure and engagement were right on par)
i havent ever driven a car with the RAM HD clutch and would like some feedback from people with that specific clutch...(RAM powergrip HD)
pricing isnt too much different between them either but i do like that the stage4 doesnt have any springs too wear out on the disk
EDIT; i have a rear main leak (pretty good sized too) i'm not repairing it until i have a clutch to put in the car at the same time

Re: clutches (SPEC4 vs. RAM HD) LT1
I recommend the SPEC stage 4. I have it in my car with the custom full face disk ("F" disk in SPEC lingo) Engagement is really quick, but its extremely grabby (good thing)

thats kind of what i'm leaning towards but i would like some input back on the Ram HD 1st....they seem to be a good clutch from what i have read

When i was clutch shopping I was tossing around options....I initially was going to get the Ram powergrip HD. I started looking around, and virtually every clutch offered has gotten bad reviews at least once. The Spec's issue was the spring breakage issue, as well as not lasting as long as people would like. The Ram clutches had a bad rap for slipping on dry pavement high RPM launches. I found that very disturbing. Its been a while since I did this research, but there were a number of people that reported this...i guess it had something to do with the material used on the clutch disc. This is the reason i stayed away from the Ram.

yeah, i understand about the whole "every product gets a bad wrap from somebody about something at one point or another" issue. i've been satisfied with the stage2 for over 40,000 miles now and alot of track use too boot on a 12bolt and slicks
street twin is too much money for me, even tho they are rebuildable and come with EVERYTHING too get going, the initial hit in the ole bank account is just too much for a wear item IMO

Hey,
I've had the Ram Powergrip before. In my opinion...the clutch is too grabby. You are either engaged or not engaged...no in between. When I was making 312 rwhp, I could chirp 3rd gear with that clutch. I liked that part, but the part I didn't like was taking off. The car would shudder and buck like crazy and reverse was just plan awful. I felt like I would break something. The clutch did get a little bit after it got broke in a little (500 miles). After I saved some money, I went with a SLP LT4 clutch with lightweight flywheel. I am much happier. The current clutch is 5 years old, holds the power I have now, and drives like stock. I'm not Bashing RAM...just giving my experience. The shop that installed the clutch could have played a role in how the Ram performed...but at the same time the same shop installed my SLP LT4 clutch. (You make the call). I've never delt with a Mcleod products...so I have no comment.
