Clutch vibration/grinding

I am having a problem with non-normal grinding going into first gear. It is pretty loud. Usually only happens after the car gets warm but not all the time. Also having an issue with a good vibration at anything above 3k RPM. If the car is neutral (M6) and the clutch is to the floor, I can rev all I want with no vibration. As soon as I let the clutch up (still in neutral) and rev above 3k rpm the vibration is there. Vibrations are there while driving also. Oh and I have no clutch slippage. None. Any help or information on this would be great. Thanks, Josh

Went to a shop today and they said that most likely I have the throw out bearing going of I have some fingers on the clutch that are bent. They recommended just replacing clutch and all while it was torn down. The said if I brought in my own parts labor to install the clutch would run about $300. How does this price sound???

Went to another shop (trasmission) and they thought it could be the input bearing on the trasmission. They said it would be $275 for a tear down and put everything back together. That would include the install of a clutch if I wish. What do you guys think? I have never heard of this problem on here... and what I have heard doesn't match up with my issue...

Why don't yout think that the prognosis matches with the symptoms? It would seem based on your description that you have an out of balance clutch that is not making full contact. I think that could be any number of things.

As for the price, I seem to remember having a clutch installed for a lot less than that. It's really a pretty simple thing once you figure out how to do it. I say save the cash and do it yourself.

another vote for doing it yourself, it is not that hard and you can save lots of money in the process. If it is the clutch you can change it out and save the few hundred bucks it would cost to get it done at a shop. If it turns out to be transmission related then you can save some money removing it and installing. It can turn a $600 repair bill into a $250 repair bill.

you know everyone is quick to condenm the clutch when ever there is a vibration, my vote is the pilot bearing. if that is worn it allows the input shaft to move causing a vibration. i speak from experience. same exact symptoms on my 93. thought it was in the tranny at first so we tore it down at work, did not find anything wrong with the trans, since it was out put a clutch in it thinking that would help and had the driveshaft balanced. still there. started to think about it and thought **** i forgot to do a pilot bearing as well pulled it again and of course the brass bushing they used from the factory had oblonged allowing the input shaft to move causing the vibration. replaced that and was good as new.

just some info if you ever have this prob. chk that before you drop 500 on a new clutch.
