clutch replacement

My car started slipping occasionally- scratch that, often if I get on it while in gear. From a stop or while shifting it doesnt seam to slip more than normal. Am I correct in assuming pressure plate? I have the older spec 3 clutch and pressure plate with the spec aluminum flywheel. Would I be ok if I went with a ls6 clutch kit and kept the current flywheel? I also saw that they make a replacement friction surface for the flywheel, is it just a simple unbolt, rebolt or is there more to it?
Powerwise its just exhaust and air lid so I dont need anything extreme.

Re: clutch replacement

Typically, the slip is due to lining wear on the clutch disc itself. The only way the pressure plate would cause slip would be if the springs were weakened.

The flywheel needs a smooth surface, and often needs to be resurfaced when the clutch has worn out. The "friction" material is on the clutch disc.

Re: clutch replacement

they make a replacement insert for the flywheel, that is what I was asking about and the possibility of using the spec flywheel, with or without the replacement friction surface, and a ls6 clutch. Thank you for the response.
