clutch question
clutch question
I'm wondering if my clutch is getting worn. My friend who has a 94 M6 T/A drove my Camaro around the parking lot and his clutch engages alot sooner than mine does when taking off. He said he thinks that because mine engages alot later than his that it's worn. I have 69k and the original clutch and he has a stock replacement from Autozone that's maybe 4k miles old. Shifting gears the clutch grabs like it should and doesn't slip at all. I can fish tail some on the 1-2 shift and bark the tires hard on 2-3 and that's with brand new tires. Are LS1 cars different than the LT1 cars with the clutch feel? Another friend said I'm fine and that a 02 WS6 with 30k felt about identical to mine. I'm new to manuals (learned on my car i bought 3 weeks ago) and haven't driven any car but mine with a stick.

Re: clutch question
The easiest way to tell if you need a new clutch is put the car in 6th gear at around 50 mph and floor it....if the tach rises and you don't seem to be accelerating, then you probbaly need a new clutch. Thats amazing mileage out of the original clutch though.
I have less miles on my car and I'm on clutch #3 right now...I'm not the nicest driver, but I can also pull one hell of a 60'.

Re: clutch question
Wow you must really abuse the clutch alot on your car.
A coworker of dad's has a 99 M6 Z28 that's been his daily driver since he bought it new, and he still has the original clutch at 139k. The guy is a car nut (he builds kit cars and has restored dozens of old muscle cars) and has had some fun in his Z but probably no track duty.
