First, check the fluid level, and condition. Replace if neccesary. How many miles on the car? Has the clutch ever been replaced? And if so, when? Does it make any noises when driving it normally? Does it ever pop out of gear? Really, we need some more information. However, it sounds like it could be one of a few things, worn throwout bearing, bent shift fork, or even worse, worn out syncros. But without seeing the car in person, that's all I have to go on.
