clutch peddle reponse

I have to bring my clutch peddle out about two inches before i get ANY grip. Is this normal for our hydraulic clutches or is this a sign of a wearing clutch? Either way, is there a way to make it more responsive? Driving a G35, RX-8, even Mazda 3 is SO much more fun whe it comes to the ease of chirping gears.

Do aftermarket clutches such as Spec or McLeod eliminate that mushiness? I understand that McLeod makes an adjustable master cylinder. Is this all that's needed? If I go that route, do I have to replace anything else besides the master cylinder? Thanks alot!
