Unhappy Clutch noise when clutch pedal floored??

I've got a 97 TA with basic bolt-ons and just swapped the A4 for the T56. SLP clutch disk, LT4 PP, new Pilot bearing, Hurst billet shifter, and poly mounts were also installed.

Problem: Sometimes chatter noise and vibration felt in the clutch pedal when it is fully depressed (to the floor). Doesn't occur if the clutch pedal is depressed just enough to disengage the clutch and only occurs some of the time when I stand on the clutch pedal.

Many people say the TO bearing or the pilot bearing is noisy, but from my search it appears that those make noise when the clutch is engaged (pedal up) not when the clutch pedal is floored like in my case.

Any Ideas? Is the shifter fork or the PP banging into something?

Either way, if its a growling bearing, you have to pull the trans to get at it. Please tell me you didnt severely grease the input shaft?

Nope. No extra grease on the input shaft. Extra grease in the pilot bearing, but not on the surface that contacts the input shaft. But what's weird is that it only makes the noise occasionally and only when I stand on the clutch pedal. This makes me think that is has more to do with the shifter fork than with the bearings. I would think that if it were the pilot bearing that it would also make the noise as soon as the clutch is disengaged not just at the full limit of the clutch pedal.

Plus I can feel the vibration in the clutch pedal (like a hammer tapping on the back of the pedal) which makes me think that something is happening at the fork or pressure plate level.

I put a slightly too thick flywheel shim in mine and it makes a wierd noise if I push the clutch too far. Basically its pulling the pressure plate a bit too much. If you have an aftermarket pressure plate, it could be that.

Pulled the tranny this past weekend and found that the shifter fork bolt had come loose. This allowed the whole fork to be pushed towards the pp before it started to pivot and disengage the clutch. The noise I was hearing was the fork contacting the pressure plate when I pushed the clutch pedal all the way to the floor. It scratched up the backside of my PP a little, but that shouldn't affect the function of it. It seems to work fine now.
