Clutch install

Clutch install
Doing a clutch in a 97 Camaro Z28. He had put a spec stage 3 in there and it went out after 4-5k miles. We took it out and the springs on the clutch were torn up by the bolts on the flywheel. Anyone ever seen this? And any feedback? I didn't want to throw another clutch in there and have it go out. There is still meat left in the springs just was eating them up.

Re: Clutch install
Was the clutch disc put in backwards? If the springs in the center are offset from the disc on one side I'd suspect it was put in the with the wrong side facing the flywheel. Either that or he had is flywheel machined way, and I mean way too much.

Re: Clutch install
He bought a brand new flywheel from Mcleod when he did the clutch so I don't think it's the flywheel. Maybe what you are saying is right. I'll take a look today. I'm hoping that is the only problem. I'm afraid to put this clutch in that I have and have the same thing happen.

Re: Clutch install
What signs did the clutch show that it was bad? Mine grinds horribly when in gear and I have a SPEC stage 2. Happened out of the blue and about 4k miles. Im dropping the trans anyway but just trying to figure out what to expect this time.

Yeah. Well good thing I had a stock flywheel sitting at the house. And also after a little argument with Summit he is getting his money back for the flywheel. It actually didn't break any of the springs but I wouldn't use the disk again. Quick ? is there a difference in the pressure plate with a Spec Stage 4 compared to a Stage 3? or just the disk?
