clutch choice help please..

Ok, in the process of an M6 swap and im tryin to pick a clutch right now. so far ive got it down to the Zoom perfomance clutch, Ram HD powergrip, and the Spec stage 4 (since ive heard so much bad luck with stage 3) and as far as i know these are all in the same $500 price range.. any more suggestions or pros and cons of each?? oh and this is for a daily driven bolt on LT1, maybe a few plans in the future but nothing that wont allow for easy clutch change at the same time. so any/all info highly appreciated

also whats the difference in clutch materials?? ive been lookin through some and was wanderin what the difference is between each.. "multi friction material" "kevlar" and "ceramic" were the different types i ran across..

Re: clutch choice help please..

I'd go with a Z06 setup or Centerforce dual-friction

Re: clutch choice help please..

i had thought about the dual friction.. but its $100 more and doesnt even come with the to bearing alignment tool or pilot bushing. also i remmeber reading about it not wanting to disengage properly. but any more info on the Z06 setup?

aside from that i think ive decided on the Zoom clutch, that kevlar disk sounds like something interesting from the info listed on their site.. but how trustworthy is info from the manufacturer these days lol.

I voted for the Powergrip but if you don't plan on doing heads/cam or SC or something, go with a stock clutch.

Re: clutch choice help please..

i plan on a h/c down the road a bit, but probly a 150 shot in the next year sometime. just gonna rebuild my motor to be the race motor i want, and run the stock 15k mile LT1 i got from my dad for awhile with full bolt-ons + nitrous eventually..

through GM parts direct the stock clutch kit is showin as $249... anyone else think this is the route i should go for a bolt-on only car? or will the extra grab be worth it for the occasional strip night?? and do the kevlar clutches really last much longer? if they do it may be worth the extra anyway..

Re: clutch choice help please..

i just put in a ram powergrip hd a week ago and I'm happy with it so far. I have about 355 miles on it right now and probably won't rip it until 500+ miles cuz I don't really feel like doing another clutch swap anytime soon. I got it for 525 shipped, plus a new pilot bushing, new trans fluid, new rear main seal, flywheel resurfacing, etc. so <600 for everything. Maybe a little stiffer than stock, a little bit chattery sometimes on takeoff but definitely slippable. Picks up closer to the floor but i actually like it better than stock. It was pretty soft in the grab department until I put about 20 miles on it, and its felt about the same since. I did drop the clutch at 2500 and it snapped my head back pretty good so we'll see how it does after another 200 miles
