clutch break in question (spec)

i just put a stage 3 in about 2 weeks ago now and have about 200 miles on it. The clutch worked quite smooth when i first got it on the road, smoother than the stocker was before i pulled it. Now it seems the spec is more chattery than the stocker. about 150 miles was its worst, now it seems to be smoothing out slightly and slowly. Im wondering if this is normal and hoping it isnt, cause id obviously rather not deal with that chatter. I was wondering if its possible that some of the grease from the new pilot bearing may have gotten into the clutch. would that hurt the clutch if thats the case? or would the grease just burn off. I havent launched it, or shifted hard or anything that would beat on the clutch. I also heat cycled it the first 50 miles or so. I was also wondering if there is a technique to breaking them in. ie slipping them more. i just want to end up with a smooth clutch any input would be much appreciated.

Usually slipping it more from around 1500 from a stop will usually get rid of the chatter. Proper breakin is 450 miles of city driving not exceeding 3000 RPM. Expect chatter up to the end of that break in period, or maybe up to 1000 miles.

taking off at a higher rpm does eliminate most of the chattering for me. i was just wondering if anything was wrong because it hardly chattered at all when it had 0 miles on it, no matter what rpm i took off at. Its also chattering on the shifts now...never did that when it was new either.

my SPEC 4 seemed to chatter much less the first few hundred miles. now it seems to do it more.

could be that i'm being more agressive with the car now, as opposed to babying it those first few miles.

Re: clutch break in question (spec)

My stage 3 has around 15,000 miles on it and it chatters like hell in reverse. I get a noticable amount of chatter from a stop. The higher the RPM's are when I let out on it the smoother it is. Basically I try to engage it fast when I am starting out and then I don't get the chattering. Just have to make sure there is plenty of room in front of me at the stoplights. There are times when I wish I had gone with the stage 2.

It really doesn't like to be slipped.

Re: clutch break in question (spec)

I got a Spec 3 with hybrid option. Chattering was minor around 100miles, then grew worse, Then it just went away around 400 on break-in (and with some immediate track runs).

Then it got quite bad for another 500 miles but I started purposely slipping it to try to smooth it out on takeoff, revving to 3000 rpm gently letting it out...it completely dissappeared for the last 1000 miles. Hope it stays that way!

I know the hybrid option is supposed to help. But also I think you may have a point about the grease...maybe you can spray some brake cleaner in there with a mask on....also the torquing of the bolts in a perfect star pattern is important...maybe jsut maybe ( in my case) it's possible you can RE-Wear in a chattering clutch by gently slipping it.
