Argh, now I can't decide, just noticed a vendor has the spec stage III for sale at 489 shipped but the mcleod dual friction is 389 + 20 shipped. I don't know which to go with, opinions?

Anyone have any opinions? I mean, is the stage 3 too much for a stock motor with just headers? I mean, if it holds up great, but will it have a real stiff pedal to it?

I had a bad experience with my SPEC.. THey did give me a free one.. But it still caused much damage. it was a stage III carbon. IT was the old version too.

There are still a lot of people happy with them..

But if u dont want the chatter, and dont want to worry about driveablilty get the LT4 clutch.

I have an LT4 and its smooth.. My car has around 440 hp well its dead right now but it did have that much. The LT4 clutch would barely hold it. On repeated runs if using the clutch for 3rd gear it would slip on the next run if i did it under a minute.

all the guys use Valeo's LT4 pressure plate. Just different discs are used.

If you drive the car just about every day. Want smoothness, reliablilty , and better than stock grip good for 400hp. Get a LT4.

I went ahead and bought a stage III spec (six puck ceramic), i'll see how this goes, at least I know I can beat the crap out of it now and not have to worry about it breaking it.

that will be a noisy clutch. It'll grab hard, good for 1/4 mile times.
ceramic pucks will also shorten the life of the fly wheel.

Thanks for the heads up, just changed the order to a carbon, talked to another guy he said the samething.

You know the difference between carbon and the stock organic or are they one and the same?

they are different. The carbon is the compromise grip between organic and ceramic. Organic is what the Stage II spec is and others like LT4 or LT1 LS1 etc.. The carbon will chatter a little in 1st gear... usually wont in 2nd. And the chatter might go away for the most part after break in in 1st gear. If u have 4.10's its more friendly to use the carbon clutch.. In traffic u have to work the clutch alittle more so it doesnt grab so hard and or chatter.

Hmmm, i think i'll be alright with the carbon then. A little chatter never scared me, besides, keeps people from asking me to drive it since it will be a little less friendly . BTW, don't the spec II's come with a kevlar clutch?

how much do the lt4 clutches you mentioned run and where do you get them?

i've been planning a spec stage 4, same as the stage 3 but without the sprung hub. the first clutch i toasted in my z i blew the springs out, second one i sheared in two, i figured i'd solve that and go stage 4.

ceramic with cool quicker, just make sure to use a steel flywheel, don't try alum. it should hold up fine for quite a while. sure 2-4 yrs down the road you'll have to resurface it when you replace the clutch, so what.
