CLutch Advice

Ok. Last night i went to the dragstrip. I finished installing 4.11's and i wanted to see what the times would be. THe year before i went to the dragstrip and with stock tires stock car stock everything i turned a 14.686 at 96 mph with a 2.3 60 foot. and this year i turned a 14.5 at 97 mph with a 2.1 60 foot. with the same tires. it just doenst make anysence. When i did the calculations for the 4.11 gears i should be able to do something like 115 or 114 mph in 4th. but i was red lining my motor by the end of the track only going 97 mph. I am thinkin that this might be my clutch slipping at the top end of the track. it kind of is starting to make sence now because a few weeks earlier i went to the dyno and i made 247 rear wheel horse in 3rd gear pull but i made 216 horse at the rear wheels with a 5th gear pull. could this be my clutch slipping in a high gear? and also i smelt some clutch burning as i was racing witch is kind of a signal also but im not sure. I shouldnt be at redline or even close to it i should be at about 5 grand maybe as a estimate i would like to hear some peoples thoughts on this.

Re: CLutch Advice

I found out my clutch was gone during take-offs and pulling hills. If the tires hooked at the track, the clutch would slip for a few car lengths....Very frustrating. Some say you can put the car in say 6th about 50mph and stand on it and the clutch will slip, watching the tach may help you know if it slips. Once mine was replaced I became very aware of how shot my old one was...huge differance. Also, right before I had mine replaced my clutch engagement was at the very top of the pedal.

Re: CLutch Advice

Initially when I first got back on the road after the install the pedal engaged all the way at the bottom, and was very grabby almost like wet brakes on an old car. After a few days of easy break in time the engagement moved up to just about middle of the pedal travel (but closer to the floor). That is where it has stayed for the last two months. I was lucky enough to have to put in a new fly wheel also, went back with stock. Mine was beyond being turned out. Buying all those parts has kept me off the track
