Which clutch for 500+rwhp

I've got a stock headed 355 97Z m6 with a 200 shot on it running nitto drag radials. With the 150 pills the clutch grabbed fine from a roll. Now with the 200 pills it feels like it is slippiing. It is a fairly new mcleod single disk that was in the car when I bought it. What options should I look at for replacement? Anything besides the street twin? The street twin I installed on my old ls1 car(4-5x) was such a nightmare I don't really want to go back to Mcleod. Any other options?

When I read the title of the thread, I immediately thought "Street Twin".

What was your problem with the ST?

No matter what one of the disks would drag so the clutch would not disengage which made it hard to shift. I worked with their tech support for weeks. I ended up returning it for a full refund. It was an aexhausting 10 hours or so worth of work. I installed a spec 3 with no problems.

My McLeod ST on my 95 has been flawless. If you do a search you'll find the consensus is a ST for the LT1.

Who installed your Street Twin? There are some special things that need to be done when installing that is not normal for most clutches. If the installer didn't know, then problems are almost guaranteed.

I don't know the details... there was a thread about this a couple weeks ago -- a guy was really unhappy about his McLeod single disk. I'm pretty sure he spelled McLeod wrong in the subject....

The Mcleod Street Twin is the way to go.

Actually I was the installer. I got to do it 4-5x due to the fact that it kept dragging. I tried multiple shims and a new pressure plate with no luck. I was tired of messing with it and returned it. Now, this was on an ls1. It is a different clutch setup, but I sure as hell don't want to go through that same nightmare again.

We have sold/installed many of them and would say that the only complaint we hear about the Mcleod is the price. I would recommend giving them a shot. I know the work of uninstalling it would suck, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised with their LT1 clutches.

Re: Which clutch for 500+rwhp

Eric sent me the ST a while back. It arrived in a few days. Unfortunately, it's still sitting on the floor in my bed room. Only because the engine isn't built yet. There have been scheduling and health problems of my builders, but I'm willing to put up with it to make sure that everything is right.

Why is it in my bed room? Well, at $1000 I better be getting some kind of action in the bed room!!!
