Re: Which clutch

I'm very happy with my centerforce. The stock clutch was pretty weak compared to the SPEC III I had on the car last year. My hydrualic system went out and tore that clutch up with only 12,000 miles on it. That clutch was pretty much a race clutch...it would bite down like a motha'

It was a bit much for a daily driver and didn't want it again when replacing it. I went with the centerforce because it feels almost like stock in terms of engagment and pedal pressure. However, its got WAY more clamping abilitity than the stock clutch...probably more than I'll ever need. Also, it wasn't terribly expensive.

You're going to want to upgrade your whole hydraulic system when you replace the clutch and of course a new throw out bearing....and probably a new flywheel as well while you're at it. It can get expensive pretty quickly.

Re: Which clutch

Dont get a centerforce . I hate to say this becasue the one on my camaro still works great after 50k and launches hard as well . But I just put a new centerforce clutch in my TA and guess what ? One half of the clutch facing the flywheel busted off and destroyed my flywheel . This thing had very very little track time on it and no runs on DR's . I had to buy a new flywheel becasue the scar on it was to deep to mill out . So right now , My wheels are down until I get a new clutch put in .

Re: Which clutch

Maybe you just got a bad one?

I've been abusing the hell out of this one...plenty of drag radial launches and long smokey burnouts. It takes it like a champ.

A Z06 clutch kit may be what you're looking for.

Re: Which clutch

If I recall correctly, 2001 & 2002 cars came with the Z06 clutch from the factory. (I think) If thats correct, then that clutch is pretty weak compared to many of the aftermarket ones that have almost the same feel.

Re: Which clutch

I've heard both ways... that the clutch's that came in the '01 and '02s were actual Z06 clutches.. but I've also read that the clutches appear to be the same but actually aren't. Something about the composition of the clutch disc being different. I dunno really Maybe someone can call LUK and see what they have to say about it.

Re: Which clutch

Well I need a clutch that will take 600ish rwhp, so I think a Z06 is prolly out of the question...

I was posting in reference to the thread starter

Have you looked at the SPEC clutches? The Stage 3's are supposed to have decent street manners... the 3i's are a good choice as well. I did quite a bit of research a couple months ago when I was looking to purchase a new clutch. I was going to buy the Stage 3 myself but got a killer deal on the Z06 clutch kit that I would've been stupid to pass up

Re: Which clutch

Yeah, I've been considering a SPEC 3i, but keep hearing about people having them glaze at 1000mi, or literally fall apart. I'd hate to spend upwards of $600 for something I'm not confident in... Can you believe my STOCK clutch has been taking 600rwtq abuse with only occasional slipping? I think the only reason it has survived this long is because I can't hook at all...even with 275 Nittos.

Re: Which clutch

I have an '01 with the factory clutch. It started to slip at 10,000 miles and then stopped. I now have nearly 37,000 and it hold do problem. I spray it and all. I do have the issues with high RPM the pedal sticking to the floor!

Have you tried moving your floor mat out of the way?
