clunking noise out of the clutch after removal
i redid the engine again and obviously removed the clutch and trans. on reassembly, i lined up the clutch with a tool and triple checked it. my input shaft was bent a tad. about .017" on the tip, but i cut the tip down on a speed lathe and put heat welded a new piece of hardened steel to it. in the end, i got it down to .008" out of round on the tip and about .003" out of round on the splines. i made my own bronze pilot bushing and all with perfect clearances. now, if i let the car idle with the car in neutral and clutch engaged, it chatters and makes clunking noises lightly. Thing is, the input shaft was more bent before and never made any noise. i did all the alignment the same way. I can live with it, but i don't want it to hurt anything.... any ideas???? btw, when you press in the clutch, the noise goes away.
