Which carrier do i have?

Ok i ve try to do some search on the last post but i didnt found my answer.

I have a 1995 formula 6 speeds with the stock 10 bolts,7.5 with the stock 3.42 gear.

I want a 3.73 one and a stronger girdle.But i need to know what carrier do i have?2 or 3?

Does a 3 series carrier gear will fit in a 2 series one?

Thank you

Re: Which carrier do i have?

3:42 = 3-series carrier
And 3-series gears will not work with a 2- series carrier

A 3 series gear will fit a 2 series carrier IF you buy the gear to match the carrier, OR buy a spacer to put on it between the flange and the gear. A 2 series gear is thicker and the flange isn't seated as close to the pinion gear. Where as the 3 series is thinner and seated closer. But if you buy a 3 series gear made for a 2 series carrier, then the gear will already be thicker and you won't need a spacer.

You have a 3 series carrier. You don't need to change anything if you want to go to 3.73's, but you won't feel too much of a difference.

I was looking for a 4.10 but i dont want to loose the long 1st gear and also try try to keep a little fuel economy.I want a good all around car for occasionnaly drag racing and more often autocross or race track.

The 4.10 as i read on a couple of f-body board would be maybe a little too hard for the weak stock 10 bolts. And i dont have the money for a moser 12 bolts

Just tell me if im wrong

Thank you
