Carrier bearing swap.....Real quick question

Hey guys,

I've got a 97 Z that im hunting a bearing noise on. Got it narrowed down to the rear end. My question is, If I replace JUST the carrier bearings, can I simply replace the shims in thier proper place, and bolt it back up? I'm trying to avoid any extra cost, but would like to do this right. I'm gonna definatly replace the rear wheel bearings, but would like to know about the carrier.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Yes you can just replace the bearings just make everything left to left and right to right. Also make sure the bearings are seated all the way on the carrier before reinstalling, and use a punch to drive the shims back in or they might crack.

Thanks man......I got it figured out. The rear end sounds like a new one. 90 bucks in bearings later.

Again, thanks. Mike

WOW $90.00 for two diff. bearings and races, who did you buy them from? I usually get a set for $30.00.

I did both wheel bearings and seals also. Add in the synthetic oil and posi additive. I think I did pretty good.
