Car is hard to get into reverse

Ever since I done my stroker install Last Fall the car has been a bitch to get into revese. Not like a shifting problem but Im thinking the reverse lockout Soliniod. IF these things screw up does that sound normall is is it possable I may have a connector swapped. I know there dummy proof but they will sometimes fit in the wrong hole. Any suggestions?

Maybe the linkage isn't correctly adjusted?

There isn't any linkage on the 6 speeds. They are hydraulic. Yes it is possible to mix up the connectors. My friend accidently misconnected mine and it wouldn't go into reverse or 2nd or 3rd. Check you connectors. Its also possible it went bad. You can also try disassembling the solenoid and cleaning it. Worked for me

Mine is not even hooked up. I'm used to it, just put a little *** into it and it moves.

It dont really bother me. The only thing that worries me is wearing out the PRO 5.0 shifter. I doubt if it will ever happen but I bought a used Kirban one time and it was wore smack out.

it is hard to get into any other gears? Try putting it in 5th then reverse, that works for me.

Re: Car is a B)&*H to get into reverse

You most likely have a bad shift fork in reverse. I doubt its the synchros. Sometimes if they have been forced by someone the shift forks can be bent especially in reverse. Good friend of mine, GM and Ford master tech just did one in his 95 firebird. It now shifts into reverse with very little effort. IF you can rule out the solenoid problem being the culprit then plan on tearing down your trans. While you are in there you might as well replace the 3-4 shift forks with steel units (only 49.00) from D&D and purchase a full bearing/seal kit. Red Line D4 also works VERY well in the T-56 especially in cold temps. Good luck!

I read it the first time as grinding all the gears, thats why I said syncro's, but If its just reverse then my bad.

Re: Car is a B)&*H to get into reverse

Mine was a PITA to get into reverse too... when i took the T56 apart, i found that one of the fork pads on the reverse fork had come off. That meant that the fork wasn't pushing the ring onto the engagement teeth evenly. I'm hoping that a new set of pads will cure the problem. Everything else looked great... no bent forks, rods, etc etc. That's IF i ever get to put the damn thing back in the car. Lack of time and money is a killer.

Mine was the synchro and I used the ram it in technique long enough that the gear was screwed too. The fork was still okay though. Get it fixed before you cause more damage. I wish I had.
