Can old fluid cause a Auto not to shift at correct points?

This is actually for my 96 2.2 liter automatic accord.

It usually shifts somewhat ok when its cold but after driving for awhile it'll not shift into 3rd or 4th gear, and sometimes it'll slip out of gear... kinda like a slipping clutch where u give it gas and it barely moves forward as if its slipping.... It will grip better when applying the gas slowly... if u rev it up or floor it, it wont grab the gear....

Im guessing its worse than old tranny fluid but just thought i'd ask.

Old fluid can be the cause of what you described. However, more often than not low fluid would be the problem or else the trans is on its way out. I have always been with the school of thought that you shouldnt service trannys after a certain point, because its usually all the burnt up clutch drums that are making the trans still grab.
