Can I save my Converter?

I just fried my 350 turbo. I had a brand new jegs 28-3200 stall. The tranny lasted about 60 miles in my firebird. The transmission shifts, but it slips under hardly any load. I don't know if the converter was bad from the begining, or if I overheated the transmission.(it went out before i could buy a temp gague) I did a lot of town driving and it was a hot day. What could have caused my problem? Will I be able to use the converter, or is it junk. I would kind of like to drop stall speed anyway, to keep it a little more exceptable for daily driving.
