can i just throw a z28 limited slip unit and ring and pinion in my v6 axle
can i just throw a z28 limited slip unit and ring and pinion in my v6 axle
i got a 1994 camaro v6. drum brakes, obviously i can swap over to disc, but as far as the limited slip and ring and pinion........ can they just be bolted in or is the axles or the housing actually different?
I have a z28 rear end but for one its a 2 series with 2.73s and secondly its just plain rusty as hell compared to my current rear end.

You can just "throw" it in and bolt it up, you have to measure backlash and distances so you don't ruin the gears or the axle itself. Taking it to a shop is the best bet to get it done right forsure. The rust on the axle really doesn't mean anything, most of that is surface rust anyways. As for the 2.73's, you'll still have a nice take off with a little tire spin, but nothing like a 3.73 would do. Also 2 series and 3 series doesn't really mean anything, just means what gears they will take. and you can put a spacer on the 2 series carrier to make it fit a 3 series gear.

ya i can sandblast off the rust and paint it and bolt in a set for a 2 series, i'm just lazy and why not just do it in my nice clean rust free rear end, i mean since i gotta rip it all apart in the other end just to change the ring and pinion ratio, why not just throw it in the nicer rear end.

Any reason you want to go with 2.73's? Not sure what yours is stock, guessing a 3.23, so why not go with a gear like a 3.73 and get more torque?

yes i know that, but if i get a carrier and a ring gear that ratio out of another z28 used will it just drop right in the v6 axle
