Can anyone explain this rear-end noise
Can anyone explain this rear-end noise
After a Motive 3:73 install the rear end makes a strange noise while coasting or slowing down. It's hard to describe but for you people that can roll your tonque it's a, re de de de de de noise. No this is not a joke. I'm looking for any clues someone might have. There is no metal in the lube, all the bearings have been replaced, switched to a diff. drive shaft and the calipers have been checked. Any ideas?
Re: Can anyone explain this rear-end noise
sounds like the oh so common gear whine.
some brands of gears seem to do it more than others.
but for the most part it means the gears were not set up correctly. really isn't any harm in it i don't think, unless it's really bad.

teke184, Iv'e had Richmond gears in this same rearend years ago. Believe me when I say, I know gear whine and this ain't it. The gear pattern is right on, and the gears are very quite as far as whine goes. But damn this noise is annoying.
Re: Can anyone explain this rear-end noise
My motives don't whine but make a grr ing noise when I come off the throttle at higher speeds.
This is the second set of motives that are doing this and no one can tell me what's causing this.
I don't think it's the torsen carrier.
I almost feel like going out and getting gears from a GM dealer.
