Bye Bye Traction! Stall Installed...

So I threw in a 2800 Yank Converter and I absolutly LOVE it. Now.. I can barely get any traction.

Anyone have any advice for launching now w/ a higher stall converter? Do you guys find launches better doing a brake stall to launch or just going 50% or so off the line and easing it up to WOT?

First hard launch I tried i was spinning tires for a good 3 seconds in one place

Slicks and other suspension mods are not in the budget right now

I am pretty sure those 2800 Yanks for our cars are just restalled stockers. Go to a Vigilante and that will blow your tires off. I have 17x11's in the rear and traction isnt found till 3/4 thru second.

I'm pretty sure most stalls that low are just restalled stockers mabey. Doesnt mean he needs to go with a Vig.

Re: Bye Bye Traction! Stall Installed...

Not really most stalls just certain ones. 2800 Edge, Vigilante, Midwest and Fuddle's arent stock restalls. But Yank and SLP are.

I'm not really saying he needs a Vigilante, but I am saying that it will really blow the tires off compared to a restalled stocker. The STR's are much different.

The 3.73's probably dont help, but, with the stock stall I didnt have 1/2 as much problem with traction as I do now. Its all about STR and how hard it hits the tires. Vigilantes are known to hit pretty hard, and let me tell you, they arent kidding.

I recommend going easy into the throttle to not flash the converter until your tires are rolling, experiment to find out what speed works best. But really a stall is only going to benefit with traction, so my second recommendation is sticky and or bigger meats.

I'm pretty sure the fuddle is a restall. It's all about the STR, that's correct so stall for stall if it's rated the same it's about which is more efficiant. I hear vigs arent but I dont know for sure.

Re: Bye Bye Traction! Stall Installed...

I'm having trouble following your wording, but my point is that the restalled stockers have low STR's. Usually in the 1.9-2.1 range. Vigilantes are a strong 2.5. Hence my comment about the Vigilante blowing the tires off more-so than a restalled stocker.

I never heard that Vig's are inefficient at all, quite the opposite actually.

I think tires are probably the only REAL solution to poor traction?

How about LCA's and/or relocation brackets ... have you done those?

suspension and tires.

launch technique? smash the gas pedal to the floor and hold it that way until you pass the finish line.

factory stall is extremely low around 1200.. but some good suspension like LCA and a subframe connector should help... i have the exact same problem

Re: Bye Bye Traction! Stall Installed...

I have 245/16 Nitto 555R's and they do not hook either. Hot days and concrete work the best... I launch at 1/2 - 3/4 throttle and mash it after I get going. My rear goes sideways on the 1-2 shift and barks on the 2-3 shift. I raced a newer 4.6 with headers and Magnaflow (and more I am sure) and I quickly pulled a car on him with my Nittos squealing. I shutdown after that. Can't afford to get in trouble on my lunch hour! Plus I am a big guy and I had a passenger! Unreal.

I love the way my car drives now. Though the MPG SUCKS bad!

That tecnique (after the stall) results in standing Burnout until i let off the gass now

I think the first step for me will be taking everyones advice and getting LCA relocation brackets welded in and see how that helps. Tires are kinda outta the question as this is my daily driver and it rains a lot in vancouver.

Tnx for the suggestions Im finding the best launch technique is to 50% it and then mash it once i'm going a bit off the line. I gotta say though the best part of a new converter is stomping on the gas from a slow roll! The car just takes off like never before, and squeels into 2nd. I'm sure it'll be equally fun once i can hookup too!
