I have had a couple of drive shaft failures in other cars and never once did the drive shaft stay attached to the car, one we never found.

I think R&P or something in the tranny.

Actually I did a fast search and found a few people claiming their 93s had 2 piece shafts. (Edit: This guys is a 97 though, so maybe its on the v6 camaros?)

http://www.killebrewonline.com/Car/97suspension.htm is where I found it, and http://www.killebrewonline.com/Car/9...riveshafts.jpg is the picture of the new v8 driveshaft and his old 2piece stock.

I've already claimed ignorance on the drivetrain past the transmission, but it looks like two pieces. Could the universal joint fail? How much should I be able to move the driveshaft side to side by hand?

Side to side? I would think very little to none. I don't know much about 2 piece driveshafts, and if it busted at the knuckle I guess it would move side to side more? Best thing to do is jack it up and check it out!

Already jacked it up last night to check it out, but that was at midnight, and I'm having it towed home this morning, I'll try to get pics of it. Some dumbass might have put a V6 driveshaft on it cause it doesn't have the original transmission. But you can definitely move it much more than I expected, maybe two inches from side to side. I'll get it in this morning and up on jackstands in the light.

PLEASE post on the correct forum..... this doesn't belong on LT1/LT4 Engine Tech.

Moving......

The V6's had 2-piece driveshafts, up to some time in the late 90's. The V8's never had 2-piece driveshafts.

This originated with what all years could I get to replace the lt1 driveshaft, that's why I put it in here.

LT1 ENGINE Tech is only for questions about (surprise) LT1 ENGINES. Not LT1 driveshafts. Not sure how this could be made any clearer.
