borg warner t-56
borg warner t-56
what is the differance between this tranny and a stock t56? i seem to think its in the tranny but i drove the car for the first time today pretty much and with stock 3.42 at 60mph i was right at 2k...and its soo easy to go 1-3-5
or skip any gear, and i can cruise in 5th no problem at 40mph, not really lugging at all

Re: borg warner t-56
I thought that was crazy too when I first drove a T56 car. I even press my shifts a bit further and cruise around town right around 45 in 6th at 800-900 rpm. The LS1 seems to have a bit more trouble pulling at that low rpm compared the the LT1's i've driven
Re: borg warner t-56
Yep, BW sold the T-56 design to Tremec back in the mid-late 90's.
Back when my car had the M6 and 3.73s, I daily drove the car using a "4-speed" technique.... only using gears 1, 3, 5, and 6, shifting all at ~2200rpm with the next gear starting at around 14-1500rpm. Works good around town, keeps you from wearing out your arm and shift components in the trans. Engine didn't lug at all.
I have a TON of dynographs saved on my computer from both engines and many setups... both stock or with just bolt-ons, LT1s make more grunt under about 3000rpm. After that the LS1 torque curve takes off. I got curious and made some excel spreadsheets to compare them graphically... quite interesting. I even pulled out a bunch of mustang dynos and did more sheets comparing those to ours. (bored engineer activities)
