Blown rear
I'll try to make this as quick and painless as possible. I had my pinion seal replaced by the dealer back at the end of November everything seemed good wasn't leaking anymore. The car sat for most of december and january due to snow However past two weeks or so the typical whine that was present before the pinion seal was replaced had turned into a binding, almost racheting sound. I figured they had forgot to put in the limited slip addative so i went and picked some up from the dealer only to never make it back home seeing as how the rear got louder and louder (sounded like a jackhammer) the rear end locked up while driving, not fun by the way.
Anyway i what do you think the possibility is that the dealer screwed something up? or does it sound like a bearing just self destructed on it's own or something?
btw car is a 96 T/A with M6

I'm just going to chime in with my past experience..
I had blew out my 10 bolt too (actually cracked the housing), and at the time decided to get it replaced with another stock 10 bolt, because I though it would be cheaper and have less headaches to deal with (I mean my stock 10 bolt was quiet, and didn't have any problems, untill the boltheads on the stock torsen snapped off) Plus I didn't have any plans for adding hp anyways. and this is a street car..
Actually, when I got my first set of 3.73's, thats exactly what happened.. typical whine was still there. but then some nasty sounds started happening.. Shop had no idea why and said it must be a faulty ring and pinion gear.. They replaced it with another one and its almos dead quiet now (except for that whine that the replacement 10 bolt had that just won't disappear)
Well, after getting another 10 bolt, and then trying to hunt down what that whine was coming from, I now live with an almost quiet 10 bolt with 3.73's.. With the money I sank in trying to get this perfect, if I can do it over again, I would have gotten a 9" or a 12 bolt aftermarket piece, that would probably just be as "almost" quiet and be alot stronger.
Something to keep in mind..

That reminds me of when my buddy bought a Camaro and it started to whine a little after two months of having it. Put it on a lift and it has junkyard numbers on it and the words "no drive no oil" wrote on the back beside it. We checked it and whoever it was never put a drop of oil in the rearend
