blew my rear- whats best option

well, first pass of the season and i blew my rear end.

went to slip the clutch to launch a bit easy and ... car only rolled a few inches. we jacked car up and was able to spin both rears in opposite directions easily with the car still in gear.

ideally i need a 12 bolt but im pretty broke and have to drive the camaro home in 3 weeks 360 miles. So... i plan on pulling the cover off tommorow and seeing the carnage. Ive never worked on a rear end before so just wondering what i should be looking at and for, as well is what i would need to replace.

Basically im debating if it be worth it to fix this one or see if i can pick up a used rear to get me home till i can afford a 12 bolt. Any suggestions or advise would greatly help - and ill post pics tommorow of the mess.

how bout the power of the credit card??

seems dumb to waste money on a rear and then spend more later on a new 12bolt.

i guess you can always resell the 10bolt rear.

Re: blew my rear- whats best option

ohh i know im not happy at all about this-

one hand i need a 12 bolt cause im just gonna keep shattering the 10 bolts.... but i have 5k on the credit card right now and A) cant wait for it cause i have to drive back B) im moving in less than a month and have to save money for it.

other hand i do not want to waste money on this rear but if im gonna do it id like to go to the 4.10s to help out with the cam....

blah such a dilema- anyway- 9 out of the 10 bolts are off - should have pics up in an hour or so-

edit* worst part is i didnt even get a chance to see what the new set up would run before she blew...lol- so now that weathers nice car is just sitting there again

I'd say pick up a complete used rear to tide you over until you can spring for the 12-bolt. You should be able to find one for a couple hundred or less. Good luck with it.

I'd just get a used 10 bolt to get you by. They can be found for $1-200 and it'll get you by until you can afford something better. If you can't pay the credit card off right away don't use it.

The gears look okay. Why not just buy yourself another carrier? See if you can get one off the classifieds then get it installed. I recently sold a Torsen T2 with 3.73 Richmond gears on the classifieds for $150. That certainly would have been strong enough. Maybe you can find one like that, then get it installed or learn to do it yourself.
