Beater car transmission question
I just purchased a 92 Geo Prizm. Its a Toyota Corolla with Geo badges is all. The car has 248k miles on it, but it runs like a sewing machine and doesn't burn oil, etc.
The transmission is a 3 speed auto. The fluid is a brownish color. Do I dare change it?
I don't think it has ever been changed before, except some new fluid added when the half shafts were replaced. I hear horror stories of changing fluid and the trans burning up soon after because the coolant lines clog up.

coolant lines clog up? if that was the problem just keep flushing tell it came out clean. what hapens if the clutches wear and the grit from that is wat keeps the clutches from sliping so when you flush it all the crap is gone and it starts sliping somtines you can just keep driving and it will start to grab once the grit builds up a bit but i would say if it aint broke dont fix it. unless you like the car enuf to throw a trans in it. good luck man.
I thought about that too. I think I'll just leave it alone and drive it until it blows up LOL Hell, I only spent $500 on it. I'd just like to keep it aroiund for a couple of years as my commuter car for work. The 35 mpg is great!
