Basic Clutch Question

Need some basic clutch advice.

2002 SS w/ 6-speed. 56,000 miles. Originally used as daily driver and has had a fairly easy life with the occassional hard launch or speed run. Well maintained, never raced.

The pedal feel for the original clutch has seemed to be softening for some time. Yesterday the pedal seemed to need half the throw distance to begin to engage and seemed to worsen. No noise or smell, but parked and in neutral the pedal actually stayed down briefly. Haven't driven it since.

Are there a few diagnostic checks I can do to determine what is wrong? Thoughts?
