Is it bad to shift into neutral without the clutch?

My friend told me he sometimes shifts into neutral with out using the clutch to help preserve the clutch. Before I start making a habit of this I just want to make sure it causes no damage. My other friend said he shifts out of gear and into the next sometimes without using the clutch, and hes got over 100k miles on his stock clutch. Is this ok to do?

Hell no ~ For manual transmissions you just ease up on the gas and gently push the stick to neutral. If you are in an automatic it depends on the car

As long as nothing grinds, you are fine.

Same principle as the big rigs. They only use a clutch when starting or stopping.

Shifting without a clutch is fine as long as you do it properly... if you're doing it right things will just slide. If you're doing it wrong it will grind badly.
