Bad Engine or Tranny Mounts??

I have a 2001 Z28 and have noticed a bit of a thud at times when the tranny downshifts (automatic)

Mind you I drove a 4 cyl for the past 4 years, so maybe it is just something I am not used to. But it happens typically at lower speeds. If I give it a little gas and it drops down a gear, I get a noticable thunk as if there is a bad mont somewhere. Is this just the way these cars are, or is something really broke and needs attention?

It's probably just the trans-mount (pretty cheap/easy fix).

Does it feel like it's coming from the floorboard/console area?

You can pick up an Energy Susp. poly-mount at most autoparts stores for about $25. Just make sure to modify the mount by shaving the pre-load bumps and do not use the extra metal plates that come with it.

This prevents excess vibration and keeps the trans positioned at the same height as your factory mount.

Hope this helps.

Exactly right.. The thud seems to come from under the floor board. I was figuring it may be the trans mount. I have not yet had a chance to get her up in the air to take a look, but will this weekend.

Since "A Little" is relative, I am not sure if I would say it is a little or a lot. To me it is quite noticable. But I am usually very acute to such things. Like said, I will get her raised this weekend and see for sure.. Thanks for the info guys!!

Even easer way to check, just power brake it. If you feel a knock under the floor, is your trany mount.
