B&M shifter linkage help.

Okay so im fussing with installing my B&M hammer shifter. I have the ****er mounted and routed the cable like they suggest. I then installed the bracket on to the transmission pan, using the spacers provided.

I then changed the shifter lever on the trans to the one provided in the shifter kit and it states to use the forward hole. So i went through the instructions of putting it in park moving the trans shifter lever forware and making sure the cable will slip through the hole freely, then basically repeat the process for it in low gear.

The problem i am having is it seems that the angle of the cable when in park is too much for the shifter cable to move. if i take the cable off i can shift through all the gears. Here is an attatched pic of the lever on the trans. Am I missing something? This is the first time i've done this.
