axle removal

i have a small squeak and i figured id start with my wheel bearings

so i remove the diff. cover take out0the lock bolt,
removed the pinion shaft

and my haynes manual says the next step is to:

"push the outer (flanged) end of the axle shaft and remove the c-lock from the inner end of the shaft"

i tried pushing everything i figured would move, is more then a simple "push" required? or is there somthing i should know......

any advice will help!!??

from what i can remember (if correctly), you push the axles in, so you get access to the c-clips... you take them off, and the axles slide right off... it would be easier to take the clips off if you have a magnet or something to that effect.

How did you take out the pinion with the carrier still in there?!?!

Once you unscrewed that small little bolt, did you pull out that block or pin that goes through the center of the carrier in between the ends of the axles? Once you remove that, you should be able to push the axles in toward the center (maybe ~1/4"? ) just enough so you can get in there an pull the C-clips.

Did you remember to pull the brakes off first?
