Question Automatic tranny question

A few days ago when I left school, I put my car into first gear and stepped on it to about 5 grand and let off, to my suprise, it did not wind down, it instead seamed like it slipped into nuetral and when I went to step on the gas, it reved it up untill it matched the engine and then slipped it into gear. It does the same thing in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, but not in D. It doesnt slip at all either. My question is anything wrong? What happened to make it do it? If I let it go will it ruin my tranny? How is this fixed? And lastly should I do a tranny flush? (I can get it done for free)
Thanks and let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Automatic tranny question

The overrun clutch assembly is the problem here (clutch, sprag, hub, etc.). This will require the diassembly of the transmission to fixed.

Re: Automatic tranny question

Sounds like the lugs on the over-run hub part of the input sprag have broken off. It's a pretty common problem.

Thanks, So is it ok to keep driving it? It doesnt seem to be a problem now. I am 16 and dont exactly have the time or money to take out the tranny.

Re: Automatic tranny question

Also, what causes this? I dont abuse my car at all. My bro has a 94 Z28 that he abuses the heck out of and it just breaks tranny mounts but the tranny is like new.
And how much would it cost to fix this?
