Re: Automatic Shifters/What are you useing... pics?
If your willing to stick with it and modify the console almost all of the aftermarket shifters will work, some look better than others but I have seen guys make shifters I thought would never fit right look damn good because they took the time and did it right.
I aint one of those guys, I have a B&M Pro Stick shifter in my 94 controlling a TH400 which I am finishing up the install on.
I was using the shifter to control the 60E when it was still in the car and I fabbed up a plate to mount the shifter onto and then I cut the center of the console completely out. So I have the front part that has the cig lighter in it and I have from the cup holder back mounted in the car to rest my arm on.
I cut it out with a dremel and it looks bad to tell the truth but its functional for what I wanted it to do.
Do you want a ratchet shifter or a positive detent shifter?
In my opinion its easier to make a positive detent shifter fit in the stock console. Of course you could yank the console out completely and run just the shifter mounted to the floor kind of like a bench seat Nova. This would require new carpet to do a custom install with and deleting the air bags and the E brake (which I have done as well) but you probably don,t wanna go that far.
