about a weekend of work, and about 1500-2000 dollars on average (but you could sell your auto to make up some of the difference)
search lt1 tech and you'll come across quite a few threads on it
also, there will be a link in some of them....something like afratesh.com/something that will have a whole list of stuff you need and how you go about doing it
i would give the link to you but i actually just deleted all my favorites that contain info on it (decided to just wait for a 6spd car to come around)
good luck if you decide to do it

it's quite a bit of work and is quite costly unless you can find an awesome deal...you'd be looking at spending a minimum of $1500 just for the necessary parts if you do the install yourself...another $500-$900 for the install depending on where you're located...

Pretty rough.

Computer, tranny, wiring, various other things needed during swap for a manual to work properly.

Don't forget you'll need another pedal, different console, etc...

You won't need a complete different colsole...just find someone selling a 6 speed shifter plate and it swaps in directly for the automatic shifter plate...that and a trans tunnel cost me a total of $25 shipped.

I also got a great deal from a close friend who took my auto for $400 and I paid an extra $600 for a total of $1000 for absolutely everything I needed for the A4 -> M6 swap...

It's really not bad. I spent about 1300 (-200 for busted 4l60e). But that's stock clutch and shifter, all the extra bolts and fluids and I ended up having to buy a bunch of stuff new.
And about a weekend of work.
