An Auto shifter that works with the stock console
I was wondering if any company makes a shifter for the A4 that will work with the factory console. I believe Hurst made one that worked with 3rd Gen cars, if I remember correctly.
If there isn't a shifter that will work, what is my best option to get a shifter that will require minimal hacking of the console.

Re: An Auto shifter that works with the stock console
I don't think that there is even one company that makes a shifter for the 4th gen auto. There might be a couple here and there that offer handles, but I don't believe any have the full shifter. I don't know that it's the car so much as it is the transmission, but don't quote me on that. I don't think they offer a shifter that will bolt up to it. You could probably easily fab the console a little to accept an aftermarket setup, that's what guys do when they install the turbo 350's and 400's. You just gotta find one to work.
Re: An Auto shifter that works with the stock console
i know a guy with an SS with a TH-350 in it. the best he could do was to stick the shifter up through the slot for the stock shifter and just leave it like that. he didnt have to cut the console, but the factory gear indicator is useless now and it doesn't really look "finished" at all. the shifter just kind of sticks out of the big hole in the console now. as was stated, there ISN'T a single shifter designed to work with the 4th gen console and/or transmission.

I forgot to mention. Another thing a lot of guys do that do the TH-350 & TH-400 swaps is convert to an M6 console. That way although they don't have the gear indicator they have the nice leather shift boot around the shifter and everything looks clean and completed.
