im looking at a project car, the car runs fine except the transmission only works in revers. The owner said a few people have said its just a chip in the transmission. i dont know jack about automatic transmissions but just doesnt sound right? its got some miles on it, so i plan on rebuildilng it anyway, but anyone have an idea what would cause that?

 

Could be a few different things. "A chip" in the transmission isn't an option. If you have a no forward movement condition, you've more than likely got internal transmission damage. Input sprag, forward clutches, or an input planetary, are a few areas to look at.
