Anyone using a TCI SFI tranny shield?
I've got the TCI 980005 aluminum tranny shield on my TH400. When the trans was installed a couple years ago, they did not install the pan straps that came with it, and didn't give them to me loose. NHRA requires that the pan straps be installed.
I order the TCI 980100 "install kit", to get new pan straps. I assumed, and the instructions show, that you cut the straps to the height required by your specific pan depth, drill a 3/8" hole in each side, and use the same bolts that hold the shield tabs to the brackets installed under the pan bolts. Sounds good in theory, but the shield tabs are not in the same location on each side of the shield, meaning the front pan strap will be angled about 1.5" back from the driver's side tab to the passenger side tab (and maybe clear the drain plug), and the rear pan strap will be angled back about 0.5" from driver's side to passenger side.
Is this the way they mean the straps to be installed..... twist the pan strap uprights so they can be mounted on a diagonal, rather than straight across?
This probably makes no sense at all to anyone who doesn't have one of these, but it should make some sense (hopefully) to the people that do...
You can see the passenger side of the shield in this pictures, and the two mounting tabs. The ones on the drivers side are "offset" forward.

I guess that nobody is going to chime in on this one so heres my take on it. I have not used the tci but I have used products from hughes and b&m both 400 and Glide and none of the straps are angled like yours. I can only imagine that tci has a mislabled part number somewhere and they owe you a set of angled straps. I would at least call and explain the problem. If thats not the case I would have a new set fabbed up in steel before I bent the aluminum to fit. I realize that most boltons never are but a piece of safety equipment should not have to be hammer fitted. Whether its a new part or an apology for their lack of engineering TCI owes you something. Let us know how it turns out.
