Anyone here install a brand new slave?

I know they come with new fluid in them from GM. Is there a special procedure of installing them?
Thanks.

If you get the brand new GM complete hydraulics unit you pretty much just bolt it in. If you replace the m/c with the McLeod adjustable m/c then you'll have to bench bleed the whole system.

i had to bleed the slave unit i bought from thunder racing

it's easy to bleed it before you slide it on the trans shaft, so for the added security that there isn't any air in it why not just do it?

You can buy just the slave cylinder from a local auto parts store. You press out the roll pin (connecting it to the steel braided line). Check pricing though, through Dal or Jason Cromer you might get the entire assembly from GM for not much more money.

Just bolt it in. It comes with a plastic tie wrap on the slave that holds the piston in and provides a bushing against the clutch fork. Don't cut it loose. It will break loose the first time you press the clutch.

Someone mentioned that they needed to take it out and cut it because it didn't work with the tie wrap the first time they installed it. Are you sure that will work?
Thanks.

I didn't need to cut my tie wrap prior to installation.

First time you step on the clutch it breaks those ties.

I got mine from my local dealer for about ~110 and it was complete, just took all of the old crap out and put in the new stuff. It was kinda a pain to get the old master cylinder out.

Mine also worked without cutting. I could hear the tie wrap pop the first time I pressed the clutch.

Re: Anyone here install a brand new slave?

Another question. After installing the new slave (it's not connected to the tranny yet), the clutch pedal seems to be depressed about 1" or so compared to the brake pedal. Is this normal? Will it go back up once the zip tie is broken?
Thanks.

Re: Anyone here install a brand new slave?

I don't think it will move up any. My clutch pedal does the same thing. I think it is because I didn't cut the hole for the master in exactly the right place. It hasn't caused any problems but it is irritating.

Re: Anyone here install a brand new slave?

I don't think it has anything to do with cutting the hole right. There is a template on the floor and there's not much room to screw up there. At least not enough that it should cause the pedal to stay noticeably lower than the other one. Weird.
