Anyone with experience with Fuddle Converters?
Hey guys, I was looking at converter options and want a vigilante. They are soo damn expensive though. Fuddle seems to be running a nice special right now so I was curious if anyone had any advice on how durable and such Fuddle Products are?
Had good and bad experience
I have purchased 2 Fuddles in the last 2 years. The first one was an 3200 HP/Street for my GTO in the fall of 06. It has been a good converter and I have been happy with it since it was installed 18 months ago. The second one I purchased this spring was a 3600 HP/Street for a Manual Valve Body 700R4 I installed over the summer in my 94 Formula.
This last converter came from Howards Converter in a Howards Converter box. When Howard was contacted he indicated at that time that he manufactured all of Fuddles converters. This converter did have a problem with the bolt holes for the flex plate which were tapped for the wrong size bolt. The holes were tapped for 3/8x16 instead of the stock size 7/16x20. When asked about this Howard indicated that he shipped bolts with the converter that were plenty strong and he guaranteed that it would not be a problem.
After installing the Fuddle converter I found that the stall speed did not seem to be consistent. When the log data was reviewed, I would see the stall move around between 3400 – 4500 RPM when I launched at the track. While driving around town I shifted into 2nd gear while going about 10 mph and mashed the gas and saw the RPMs hit 5000 rpm before it grabbed. I was not happy with this converter and ended up purchasing a SS 3600 Yank Converter. I was much happier with this converter. The stall was much more consistent and I dropped my 60’ times by a tenth.
