The subject pretty much says it all. For the price of a good 12 bolt I would think a corvette independent rear suspension could be had. Does anyone know how strong the IRS is compared to a 12 bolt?

Corvette IRS consist of a DANA rear end. The Dana's in the A4 vettes are weaker then the M6 DANA rear.

I think the is a Dana 36 or something and the M6 is a Dana 40 or something.

Dana rears are among the strongest rear there are.

I know I'm not the first person to think of doing this. I'm just not that creative. I've heard that it can be done on the full size chevy trucks EASILY and considering how $hitty the stock 10 bolts are in our cars I'm sure someone has tried this.

Search the autocross/road racing forum here, there was talk a while ago about IRS for f-bodys. Mark Montalvo developed a nice set up for his Camaro, but was trying to make it more of a bolt on than the set he had (had to be welded in and more work than what i can remember right now). What i do remember though, that swapping a c4 IRS is possible, but not ideal because of the mounting points for it don't line up and parts needs to be fabricated to make it work.

Well, I did a search for you

I like the idea of the Mustang IRS swap since that was made to be a bolt piece for them, so that actually turn out better and more feasable than a C4 swap

Well, I can't seem to find it right now, but......

I distinctly remember an early issue of GM High Tech Performance having an article on a well built LT1 Z28. Reason it sticks out in my mind is that the car had a Corvette IRS in it, although I can remember which series carrier it was. The guy had it all chromed out, and I believe the car was black. Anyone else remember this?
